Alright, so a few years ago I attempted to take guitar lessons. But I always thought I wasn't being taught the right way. He would only teach me how to play certain parts to songs, so I never knew anything else other than those few songs. I was wonder, if I learn how to play notes, can I transition them into chords? Like, is a chord just notes put together? Is it possible to teach myself through books? And what is the transition that I should use while learning(what should I learn first, second, ect..)?
I really hope this wasn't too confusing, I just really want to learn. And keep in mind that I am not at all musically inclined, therefore I know nothing, ha. Thanks for any help!

Your teacher was teaching you right, that's what all of them do. They teach you parts of songs to help with different techniques.
If I were you, I'd take lessons from someone. Once you start to get really good, they'll teach you an entire song. Just make sure you get a good reliable teacher.
And yes, a chord is notes put together, but it's specific notes to make different chords [ tobinator's advice column | Ask tobinator A Question ]
