Birth control "tricks" your body into thinking it is pregnant. The high levels of hormones (mostly estrogen) in the pills make your body think this and because of this, you do not release an egg. So, because there is no egg being released because of the constant levels of hormones, there is no egg to become impregnated. Then, when you are on the sugar pills, your body "reacts" as if it is having a miscarriage, and you bleed, but it isnt a "real" period because no egg was there.

This is why some common side effects of the pills are the same as pregnancy: nausea, headaches, mood swings etc. It is possible what you feel is because of the pill, but if these feelings last past 3 months you should see your doctor.

I've been on birth control for two years and I've never experienced such a feeling.

If it persists, talk to your doctor.
