The hormones in the pill work by preventing ovulation. You take one pill each day at the same time. When used consistently and correctly, it's 99% effective but there's always that one percent.

They do work, they're known to be 99% effective if taken right. You take one pill a day every day at the same time. You usually start the first day of your period or the sunday after that period. There are side effects you should know about, though, like missed periods, bleeding, and things like that.
