Question Posted Tuesday September 11 2007, 9:08 pm
I'm going to the doctor for gastro. I lost a lot of weight & my family doctor knows that I diet & that I am a bit underweight, but they want to make sure I don't have any abdominal issues. Does anyone know the procedure for a basic gastro appointment?? I did try google & it was either in doctor terms or wasn't too detailed. Thanks!!

Since it's your first visit the doctor will ask you a lot of questions, some of which are personal, but be sure to be honest with the doctor. He'll want to know about your eating habits, if you have stomach pain, how often you go to the bathroom. He most likely will want to do some blood tests, and maybe a procedure called Endoscopy or Colonoscopy, which doesn't hurt at all. You are sedated and they take a tube and put it down your throat or up on the other end, and a camera takes pictures of your intestines..It sounds worse than it really is.
Good luck,
If you have any more questions, let me know. I see one a lot.
