how do you get pictures to have that lighting? is it just like changing the brightness/contrast?

yeah thats basically it. lighting and contrast. if you want to download a great free program for photo editing try picasa. just type in "Picasa" on google and you'll find some sort of download. From there, increse the highlight and the shadow which will create probably just the right contrast that your looking for. need more help with photo editing, feel free to inbox me. hope i helped. =]
