In new york state, how old do you have to be before you can legally live on your own?

Maybe give some free advice about: Random Weirdos? uisforukelele answered Tuesday August 28 2007, 9:18 pm: you can legally live on your own when you legally no longer have a guardian... so when you are classified as an adult, which is when you are eighteen. however, if you have a terrible family life you may be able to be emancipated at 16, but you have to go through this long ordeal and prove that you can support yourself. the living by yourself thing isn't as important as the legal guardian thing. you are your own person when you turn eighteen. and when you are a minor, you can't rent an apartment, or have a credit card in your name, or have a house in your name. there would be no way unless you lied about who owned the house. it's a bit complicated. but yeah, eighteen :) [ uisforukelele's advice column | Ask uisforukelele A Question ]
