why dont guys like to get vans? i dont understand. is it dorky or something?

It's probably because of a number of things

1) Fashion - a sporty car generally gives you more "street cred"
2) Engines are generally bigger than cars, so insurance would cost more
3) Engines are bigger so fuel consumption is higher and so it'd cost more to run.

There's no accounting for taste though!
