I bent down to tie my shoe and i got up quickly and my right knee muscle jolted and twisted to the side. after, it hurted. now it's been more than 6 weeks, and it spontaneouly hurts like a bruise even when i'm walking i feel it sometimes, maybe in correlation with the cold weather. before this knee injury, my right knee has always been weak, running slightly up the stair would cause it to pop and sends a sharp pain to my right knee.
what is my problem? please advise, should i get it x-rayed???

X-rays wont help really, just an FYI - they cannot 'see' a lot of the tissues that you need to see with these kind of injuries. Either you will need to be 'scoped, get an MRI, or have exploratory surgery - or any combination of the 3. All an x-ray would really tell you is the position and condition of kneecap/bones etc, and possibly if you have any free pieces of bone floating around. 6 weeks of pain isn't something like a sprain or a bruise, more than likely something is injured and you are feeling it. I'd try some Ibuprofin daily for a bit and see if, by dealing with inflammation, if it helps. From my own experience if that doesnt do anything for you then its something you probably need to see a doctor for.
My first guess is that you have torn or ripped, or possibly simply a 'stretched' ligament or two. If you have a 'week' knee, then its also possible that you have some meniscus damage, but only a doctor will be able to tell you specifically.
My knees have been weak for a long time. Years ago I turned one leg, from the knee down, 180 degrees counterclockwise so that the foot pointed backwards. Now your injury doesn't sound quite as serious, but you can (and probably do) have some amount of damage to your knee. The reason ligaments get damaged is that when you move your knee in a way it wasn't intended to, often too much strain is put on them and they simply get damaged. Plus, once you start having pain and odd movement in the knee, its simply not going to heal itself and never have a problem again. More than likely small injuries, if not treated, will snowball until you have it become a chronic problem. [ Erronius's advice column | Ask Erronius A Question ]
