Wireless internet!

i am running off a d-link router and adapter. the problem is that the internet is slow on certain programs, when on internet explorer the speed of my internet is fine, but when i come to gaming, or filesharing utilities the internet is soo slow with download rates at 1kbps can anyone help me with my problem?

Make sure you open up a firewall port so your applications can access the internet. D-Link routers usually have a built-in firewall, so you will need to forward some ports in order to allow your games and file-sharing utilities to access the internet.
