Alright so I've been getting my period since March 2006 and I usually get it every month except I didn't get it in July but I got it again in this month (my mom told me it was normal for me to come late when I am just starting out) To be specific I got it again today but yesterday and a few days before yesterday I've been experiencing itching and soreness around my vagina and it hurt when I was urinating. I thought I had a yeast infection but then when I got my period today that stuff all went away. Just the problem is, it hurts SO BAD when I try to put a tampon in. I usually wear tampons but this time I couldn't do it so I am now forced to wear pads. Just my question is, are the symptoms I was having earlier (itching and soreness around my vagina) just symptoms of my period? Or do I have a yeast infection since I can't put a tampon in? Sorry this is so long! Thanks!! -Emily

There is a good chance you have a yeast infection. The symptoms of a yeast infection are most likely to present themself the week before your period. Before you started your period was there a strange discharge (it can be from lumpy and white to thin and yellowish)? Was there an oudor of bread or beer...yeasty? If the answer is yes to those questions then you do have yeast infection. If the answer is no, you could have other kind of infection. There are many types of infections with these symptoms. You should see your doctor or gyno (preferrably gyno, if you have one) to get this properly diagnosed. I know that it may be a little embarrassing, but these people are professionals and see things like this all the time. If you don't want to tell your parents many doctors allow you to set up private appointments. If you are comfortable with telling your mother then you should because she might know what it going on better than I do. Most vaginal infections can be cured with some simple antibiotics. I would get to the doctor asap if for no other reason than wearing tampons is so much more comfortable. :) Good Luck. Hope I helped. [ vermillion26's advice column | Ask vermillion26 A Question ]
