HTML is an acronymn for Hyper(t)ext Markup Language.
It's just a language used by many people to code simple websites. You can do lots of things with HTML such as making tables (like the ones you use in your advice column's layout); bold, italicize, underline, or strikethrough your text; create (hyper)links to other webpages; create ordered lists, etc. It's really easy to learn, which is why so many people use it to code their webpages. FTP, I believe, stands for file transfer protocol. This is a simple file-transfering program that allows you to upload files to a webserver without having to be on that site. CuteFTP is a really easy program to use--you try it out for free by going here:
