The lessons are 1 on 1, it's alot easier that way and you learn better that way. When I go I normally bring a CD with me, play the song I want to learn, he writes out the Tab for me (You'll learn about that) and I practice when I get home. Any starter guitar kit is always the best to start out with. They come with everything you need- guitar, amp (if it's electric) book, picks, straps, sometimes there's a stand. It's a very nice guitar, you don't want an insanely expensive guitar because if you decide you don't like playing, you don't want to have 400 dollars worth of equipment that you aren't going to use. But whatever you want to pick as a starter is fine. I'm used to fenders though. I have 2 (soon to be 3). And that's a very pretty guitar. Go with it in red, red is HOT. =) Good luck with everything.
