hey...I use AIM myself, and I put %n in my away message too...%n is an AIM shortcut that you can put in Away messages so that when you talk to someone and they are Away, their message will come up with the %n but u arent supposed to see the %n because instead of %n its supposed to be your screenname. For example:
Supposing this is what I type into my away message:

Hi %n Im not here right now. Call me on my cell, or leave a message here.

This is what you are supposed to see:

Hi (your screename) Im not here right now. Call me on my cell, or leave a message here.

..Anyway, so I guess that shortcut didnt work with you, it works with me though...I hope you understand the answer, It maight be a li'l confusing..write to me if you have any more questions.:)
