If you want to risk it, subtly clue him in. Don't tell him about it too suddenly because that will definately throw him off. Let him have time to think about it all and make sure that he knows you guys don't have to be together or anything, but that you want him to know how you feel. Also, let him know that you don't want him to be weird around you because it doesn't really change your relationship with him if he does/doesn't like you. Basically, just make sure that he knows that nothing has to happen and that there is no need to freak out. If you do choose to play it safe, then make sure you are ok with the fact that he could always go with someone else (leading you to be jealous) and you might later regret it. In the end, know that things could turn out bad if you tell him (he could freak out) and you might just have to wait it out or things could be the same, but you still wishing. I know this didn't really help because truthfully I can't tell you what to do. I can only tell you the different point of views. Pick the one you feel most comfortable with (that includes the consequences) and just go with your heart. I hope everything turns out ok and I'm sorry that I didn't really help.
