16 female going into Junior year of HS. We're doing the show Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, it was just announced-our musical is typically announced over the Summer. I have plenty of time so there's no rush, but I still wanna have an audition song ASAP so I can maximize my preparation. We all have to sing a song outside the show.
I was thinking about singing Maybe This Time from Cabaret. Some people on forums claim it's a mature song, but Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is a mature show with adult themes so it looks like it'll fit? It's a show about men scamming rich women over their money, I mostly listened to the female songs to try and look at roles but it seems to me like a racy show so I don't think that's an issue. Maybe This Time is also in my range.
But I'm worried that it'll be too generic or something, or that it's just not a good song for auditions. I'm also not sure, if I do end up singing it, if I should sing normally or if I should belt. Any theater people who can give advice?
