Vomitting on Purpose?

Question Posted Tuesday February 20 2007, 10:16 pm

If you feel sick to your stomach because you ate too much and you stick your finger down your throat to induce vomitting is it still considered an eating disorder? I've done this a couple of times, but never on a constant basis, just like...once every two months or so. It only stops my stomach from hurting, I'm not trying to lose weight or anything..is it still bad?

No, bulemia is where you're so concerned about being thin that you stop eating, and you start making weird eating schedules for yourself to try and lose weight......like eating nothing one day, and then eating a whole lot the next day, and then making yourself throw up or take laxatives to get rid of it. Making yourself vomit on purpose alone isn't enough to be considered an eating disorder.

But seriously, you shouldn't try and make yourself vomit. It's really not good for you. See your doctor---there are countless cures for stomachaches of every variety.

It isn't an eating disorder if it's once every two months. If it's once every two weeks, it is. Just stop doing that. Vomiting once every two months even is more than usual, and every time you vomit the back of your teeth gets worn a way a little bit. If you were to continue this for a number of years, you might as well have had an eating disorder. If your stomach hurts, take a tums or pepto bismol.

I don't think from your description that you have an eating disorder by making yourself vomit.
My advice? Invest in some Alka-Seltzer; it isn't as hard on your body and helps a lot with indigestion.

No- I wouldn't consider this an eating disorder. Be careful not to make a habit of it, though, because it very well could turn into a disorder. Sometimes it is necessary to puke.
If you go to the dentist, they can tell that you've been puking, so doing it too much is a bad thing, because you could be accused of having an eating disorder. I think once or twice a year isn't bad, but once every two months may be too much.

Hope I helped!
