My brother gave me his old hp touchpad which has android on it.The camera doesn't work and i want to download ubuntu. Can you please tell me step by step how to install it? (link)
Though I have extensive experience with electronics, I have only changed base operating systems on a phone/tablet once, and it wasn't to Ubuntu.

However, I did a quick search and found a step-by-step guide to do exactly what you're hoping to. If you need any assistance or don't know what they mean, they've provided plenty of links to pages with more detail on each step.

Here it is: http://liliputing.com/2011/08/how-to-install-ubuntu-linux-on-an-hp-touchpad.html

I hope this helps.

I know there are different voice recognition programs out there but do any of them actually work, and by that I mean work well enough to use for reports for school or work? Does anyone have any experience with different ones that you could tell me about and perhaps point me in the right direction?

I guess I am afraid to waste money on software if it is just going to site on my shelf, but if it works it would save me a lot of pain since I have carpal tunnel already!

Thank you! (link)
I have personally used a few different VR programs, and the one that stands out to me as truly exceptional is Dragon Naturally Speaking Premium. It is customizable based on age, region, and gender, and over time calibrates itself to your speech patterns.

It is quite expensive, but completely worth it if you're going to use it regularly. The only warning I would give anyone is you absolutely do not want to use your computer's built-in microphone. They have terrible quality. To make the most of any voice recognition software, you really need a nice headset, which can cost $40 to well over $200.

I have a macbook and I have a geek squad accidental damage warranty. Would it cover scratches on the aluminum part of the laptop & rubber peeling around the screen? (link)
Typically, I would just assume no. In fact, if it was only scratches on the aluminum body, I'd still say no. That's purely cosmetic. A standard warranty will only cover manufacture errors.

However, since you have the accidental damage warranty, I would recommend reading the entire document. Chances are that they won't do anything about the rubber, unfortunately, especially if it's just the rubber pads that keep the screen from making contact with the keyboard. I'm not exactly an expert with Macs, as I've never owned one, but if for some reason there is an actual rubber seal around the screen that is damaged, they may or may not repair it for you.

As far as scratches, all laptops get them over time. They aren't going to spend money on replacing even a single part of the laptop chassis because it has a few scratches. If they did, they'd go out of business faster than you could even imagine.

If it was cracked or broken, that would be completely different. A crack can expose vital parts if the computer, leaving them open to the elements.

So, I would suggest looking at whether or not there's real damage, and then reading your warranty beginning to end.

Sincerely,

As the question said, how do I delete my account? (link)
Go to this page: http://www.advicenators.com/faq.php?f=38

It explains all of their policies, etc., and how to delete it.

Yes, it is in fact a scam trying to get money out of you.

Well, in order to tell you how to get rid of the virus itself, I'll need some more information. If you send me a private message here on Advicenators, we can talk back and forth a bit more so I have an idea of what exactly is going on. Then I'll be more able to give you a step-by-step solution.

Solving problems like this is actually part of my job at the company I work for, so I should have a pretty good idea of what's going on when I get some more details.

But first, before sending me a message, turn on your computer. Open the internet browser. Go to some usual websites - ones that aren't porn-related because porn sites tend to be loaded up with all kinds of viruses. Now, after browsing the web for a bit(Facebook, e-mail, etc.), is your computer still having problems?

which apple computer is best (link)
Any question that sounds anything like, "Which [item] is the best of its kind," must always be answered like this:

It really depends what you're using it for.

So, in order to answer your question completely, we need to know what the computer is for. Is it for gaming? Watching movies? Digital art? Reading/editing documents? Homework? Office work? Browsing the web?

A lot of those will have a different answer from the rest. There is no "best computer". No computer is best for everything. If it's for art or video editing, you'll want one with a decent amount of RAM and a fast, dual-core processor(around 3-4GHz at least) with a large, VERY high-res screen.

If you're gaming, you'll want a very similar computer to the one just described, but with even more RAM(at the very least 8GB) and a processor with more cores(4-6). The more cores a processor has, the more multitasking it can do. That's because each core is actually another whole processor built to work in tandem with the other cores, each reading its own line of code. And running high-res games requires a LOT of multi-tasking. That's because there are models to render, textures to apply, physics to calculate, controls to analyze, etc., etc..

For both of the above, you'll probably want a HDD around 750GB at least, most likely closer to the 1-2TB range.

If it's simply for browsing the web, you can get one that's MUCH cheaper that will work just as well. Why spend $1500 minimum on a gaming computer to just use it for Facebook? You'd never use all that processing power you just paid for. 2-4GB of RAM, 300-400GB HDD, a regular screen size(11-14'' is fine), and a dual-core processor around 2GHz.

A computer for office work can have the same specs as a web-browsing computer, but you want to make sure it's a good brand that will last with minimal problems. So, if it's a work computer, you'll have to fork out a little extra. But nowhere near as much as a computer used for gaming or 3D modeling.

I hope one of the above build recommendations fits what you're looking for. If not, just update the question or send me a private message and I'll do my best to help out. If you couldn't tell by now, computers are kind of my thing. :P

I'm trying to install a program called Bluestacks on my HP mini Notebook laptop. At first I think the program just wouldn't install on my laptop and went to try it on my desktop only to discover that it will run on my laptop, I just can't see the button to continue with the installation. The button is as the very bottom of the install window and no matter what I do, I can't get my Botebook to show it to me. The screen is too small and I can't push the installation window up high enough to reach the button enough to click it.

I hope that made sense, I had trouble trying to figure out how to explain. Can anyone help? I'd really rather not have to use the program on my desktop, but rather my laptop. (link)
I used to have a netbook myself, and hated it for that very reason. Everything was always too big for the screen.

Fortunately, there are some ways to fix this. If something on a web page is too big, you can do one of two things:
1. Go to settings. Find "Zoom" and adjust the number below 100% until everything is visible.
2. Place two fingers on the touchpad on opposite sides, and slide them both towards the center of the touchpad. This should zoom out.

Unfortunately, your problem isn't in a web browser. There are two things I could think to try off the top of my head:
1. Place two fingers side by side on the touchpad, and slide them down. This should scroll downwards.
2. Place two fingers on the touchpad on opposite sides, and slide them both towards the center of the touchpad. This should zoom out.

If I can think of anything else, I'll update my answer. For now, I'll try to dig out my old netbook from the closet and get it working well enough to try a few things myself.

I hope this was helpful,

So I got a macbook air a few months ago and it is SO slow at downloading things from the internet. I tried to download a microsoft office trial the first day i got it, but it said it was going to take over 24 hours so I gave up. It took around 9 hours to download an update, and now it says its going to take 8 hours to download a 843mb program. I just did a speed test and it says I should be downloading at 1.12 mbps which I know isnt super fast but its way faster than the speeds I'm getting. (link)
What kind of processor do you have? From what I've heard about macbook air is that it doesn't have high quality processors or video cards. My laptop has a quadcore processor that usually downloads at around 1GB/sec(fast), so if your macbook has a low GHz dualcore you might not be able to download much faster than this. My only recommendation in this case would be to buy and install a better processor(assuming macs are scale-able, I've never owned a mac).

Also, your ISP may have set a max download/upload speed for their customers, in which case the only way to download faster(legally) is to change to an ISP that doesn't limit those speeds.

Another thing that might be happening is your computer needs to "warm up" the download in a sense. A lot of computers start downloads slowly, but quickly speed up. In this case, the Estimated Time of Completion will lag behind a little bit and take up to a couple minutes to show the actual speed.

So, try downloading something. If it doesn't speed up, check what kind of processor you have. If it is a low-speed processor, upgrade it if possible. If that isn't the problem, check your ISP regulations and your home router speed.

I hope this helped.

Good luck,

Hi.
I just had a problem with my computer (dell inspiron 15r. My account on it was all screwy so I made another account and deleted the original one. Now I can't find microsoft office starter or paint or anything like that, and I was just wondering if I can get it back? Any help is appreciated.

(link)
Did you make recovery discs for the files you didn't want to lose? If not, there are a few ways to get it back. But before you try that, open your start menu, click in the search bar, and type "paint" or "mspaint". If nothing shows up, it could be gone.

Now that you've determined it really IS gone, there are a few things you can do. If you have your Microsoft software CD, you can just install it from the CD. If not, you can go to someone else's computer(with permission), insert a flash drive or CD, and copy the file "mspaint" or "paint" from their C:\WINDOWS\system32 (or C:\WINDOWS\system64 if it is a 64-bit system) folder to the flash drive/CD. Now, go back yo your computer and simply move the file to your computer's C:\WINDOWS\system32 (or 64) folder, and you should have paint back. The last way to do it is to go to this link http://www.mediafire.com/?5q9dfw42ixr4vny and download it.

Now, as for the Microsoft Office Starter, you can search for it using the same method I mentioned in the first paragraph, simply replacing "paint" with "office", "word", or any other of the programs to see if they are still there. If it isn't there, there is no legal way to get it back, as Office Starter is only offered in the form of pre-loaded software; it cannot be purchased. If you want Microsoft Office, you will have to purchase the full version either in a store, or online at http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/html/pbPage.Office_Compare_Editions?WT.term=microsoft+office&WT.mc_id=pointitsem_Microsoft+US_google_5+-+Office+%28Original%29+all+kws&WT.medium=cpc&WT.campaign=5+-+Office+%28Original%29+all+kws&WT.srch=1&WT.content=ViYpIXt4&WT.source=google&cshift_ck=c0302a87-866d-423c-84b1-5eb4801b1e5fcsViYpIXt4.

I hope this was helpful.

Good luck,
