Sorry if this seems like a stupid question, but I was wondering what the difference was between accelerated english and honors english in high school? I'm starting high school, and I'm going to be a freshman... I have accelerated english 1. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? :|

It's a good thing to be in English IA (as we call it) but it would benefit you more in the long term if you're in English Honors, the level above A-level. In my school, if a student gets As in Honors-level classes, their GPA may rise above a 4.0, like myself. I was in A-level freshman year and got A+'s with my eyes closed (I was already in three other Honors classes), and ended up moving up to Honors sophomore year (I did very well) and now I'm in AP for this upcoming year. Obviously, there's a catch: Honors is very different from A-level. The teachers expect a lot from you and give you a lot of work, and yes, students did end up dropping the English class. I could handle it (I'm a math person, by the way) and went through the year with flying colors. If you can handle the stress of it and can manage your time effectively, you'll be fine. The truth is, I would have never learned how to be as organized, efficient, goal-oriented, and motivated as I am today without being in Honors and AP classes.

I assume you aren't in any other Honors classes since you didn't know the difference, but moving up in one class will not break you by any stretch of imagination. I admit, I was in all honors and AP classes first semester but ended up dropping my biggest load and my hardest class, which was the best decision I've ever made. So if you feel like English H is too much for you, just drop the class! I highly recommend you give it a try, though. It may seem difficult at first, but you LEARN to go with the flow.

I really want to take an ACT prep class so I can get a better score.

How would I find one in my area?

P.S. A legitimate one would help.

hey

the princeton review has awesome tutors. try going online & searching. your guidance counselor may or may not help you but i have a princeton review tutor for the PSAT and they also do ACT & SAT (obviously). my tutor drives to my house and it's ~$100 a session for 10 sessions once a week. so you need to start 11 - 12 weeks before the actual exam. if it's less than 12 weeks away, call them anyway. i'm sure they can help you out.

what are some things that i can expect in high school?

(1) increase in stress & homework, without a doubt.
(2) increase in responsibilities. teachers will no longer push you for work -- you have to be responsible for yourself.
(3) increase in pressure to do drugs, drink, or have sex.
(4) increase in freedom
(5) you'll end up having more fun overall.

A basketball should bounce between 48 inches and 56 inches when dropped at 6 feet. Find the tolerance for bounce height of the basketball and write an absolute value inequality for the acceptable bounce heights.

Please help/explain the steps in how to solve this problem! im stuck!!

i know the absolute value inequality?

| 48 < x < 56 |

if that helps?

summers coming to an end and all of a sudden i have 386737892 things to do. im so stressed and i feel like im missing so many things.

what do you do to prepare for school before it starts?

anddd whats your morning routine?

thanks !

1.) i always get EVERYTHING done asap! like as soon as i possibly can. i work well when i have a nice long list in front of me and i check each thing off as i do it. try making a list and setting short deadlines for yourself.

2.) wake up at 6, wash face / brush teeth, make-up, get dressed, eat breakfast some days, leave for school :)

Hi, I'm kinda poor in studies, especially in languages and math. Could you please provide some advice on how I can do better? Especially in languages because I can't understand the darn questions. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

first of all, you can EASILY go to google and type in "study tips math / english / foreign language" -- but i'm assuming you have already tried that...

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&hs=MZT&q=study+tips&btnG=Search

keep playing around with the words. try "how to study for [foreign language / math]"

there are hundreds of ways you can improve your study skills in those classes. GO TO GOOGLE. i promise. i was just doing this yesterday and there are bazillions of websites ready to help you.

Okay im in sophmore year of highschool and right now I have mostly d's in my school work. Last year I didn't do too great, i got by on mostly c's, and im on my final quater(?) in the year. My mom yells at me every night that i won't go to college on these grades, even if i get all a's next year and senior year. Is this true? I don't think it can be because I know people who went to harvard even though they had f's for quiet a while. But can anybody assure me?

unfortunately, your GPA is suffering severely, which colleges do look at.

no it's not necessarily true, but they must have had outstanding SAT scores to go to harvard. plus you wouldn't want to just get away with going to a good college, you'd want to EARN it. you will get into college.. but that means nothing. if you want a good, well-paying job you're gonna want to step it up a lot more, especially considering it's going to get harder and harder. senior year also doesn't really count because most people are already practically accepted into college by midyear.

first of all, what's the root cause of your grades falling? not studying? a guy? friend issues? you REALLY need to start getting back your A's & B's, so figure out what you need help with and act accordingly!
