im trying to learn how to play guitar by myself.
how do you use the website ultimate-guitar.com to learn songs i dont know how to read the things can anyone explain to me really clearly and TO THE POINT ?


Also, what is a good website for guitar tutorials and basic chords and how to play themm chords.?

To be honest, youtube has some pretty good tutorials. But they are kind of hard to see in that point of view. Go to a music store and buy Melbay's Guitar Methods. It taught me the basics fast and easy.

When it comes to tabs:

Example:

E-----0-------------
G-3-3---3-1---------
B-----------2-0-----
D-------------------
A-------------------
E-------------------

Example of chords:
E---3---2--------
G-------3----1---
B-------2--------
D----------------
A---2--------2---
E---3--------3---

The first note would be the 3rd fret on the G string, and it would repeat (the second note). The third note would be no fingers on the string, the fourth would be the same as the first, and so on. I can't really explain chords, but when they are together, like in the example, that means you hold them down at the same time. The tempo or rhythm of the song can't really be expressed on tabs, so you have to know it on your own. (Listening to the song helps understand the music, and you can match up the chords or notes with the actual song).

Yeah, travelin soldier by Dixie Chicks is a really good song about a guy that goes into the army and writes to this girl he met. It's a sad song, and get's your attention. It has strong lyrics.

OK my teacher is holding tryouts for a solo to a good song on Wednesday. I know the solo really well and I've been practicing all week. I want to do it but i'm afraid if i get up there, I'll choke or something. I can't even sing in front of my mom! How can i overcome this by Wednesday?

I used to have the same problem. If you practice singing in a group of your friends then you will build up the confidence to sing by yourself. I landed myself a singing solo by using this technique. If this doesnt work out for you then you should laugh your ass off before you go on. Laughing relieves pressure and gets rid of the butterflies in your stomach...and not to mention it gives you adrenalin to help you song better. good luck with getting the solo.
