My name is Musician, or at least, that's what i call myself. That might be because I play three different instruments, some better than others. To tell you, i'm not the smartest person on earth, and my level of wisdom is not the highest (probably because i haven't experienced much before). This Saturday, I am going to Solo and Ensemble. I am going with two groups: a woodwind quintet and a flute choir (sextet). I have never gone before and I'm just curious as to what exactly happens when I go there. Also, is there really a point to having Solo and Ensemble anyways? I mean, you just pay a few bucks, play for judges, and they tell you if you're good or not. Is that all there is to it or is there more?
Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Solo and Ensemble is there to help enhance your skills with you r instrument. It helps to teach you to play with others and cooperate. Also, the judges tell you whether you are good or not because they want to help you make it better. But usually, you go in with your group, and play for the judges, then they get back results to you in about 3 to 7 days. And to tell you, IT REALLY HELPS COLLEGES!!!!!! BIG TIME!

OK well i am starting to play the guitar, and i have 2 questions.
1: What are octaves?
2: How does someone do the band technique to make one string on a fret sound like a higher pitched note than normal? (Real specific please, ive heard how to do so a number of times but i never get it right) (link)

An octave is 8 notes apart. From one "A" to the next highest or lowest "A".
Of your second question, i dont really understand. Try google and see if you get anything. So sorry. =(

It means to play a tremelo. Basically, tremble your hand so that the strings vibrate.

I usually HATE questions like this on advicenators so I'm really sorry! But, this is driving me INSANE. Yes, I've googled it...plenty of times, changed my wording, etc--many different results, but not the one I want. I was in Forever 21 yesterday, and this song came on. It was like "..why don't they understand..." and the voice was kind of like Hilary Duff. Weird thing is, I googled it, and nothing matched up. I love singing. But i have a shyness of singing in front of people. I have before and people were shocked. I think im really talented at singing but it just the shyness that is a problem. How do i get over something like that? (link)

lol. I'm the exact same person! Only 2 of my closest friends have ever heard me sing. And barely, too. But they tell me i can sing, but im just too shy to. To tell you, try singing a couple times at home, like in your room. And after that, maybe you can sing to a couple of close friends. Then you can try roaming around the house or neighborhood a bit. After that is when you try and sing nearly everywhere you go, and by then, i'll gaurantee that your shyness will be 99% gone! Nobody can lose shyness 100%.
