Hi, I am 17 female, as if that matters here.. anyway, I am going to Europe for twelve days in about 2 weeks. I have the HTC Evo. My dad called our phone provider which is Sprint and she said that they have a different phone tower over there, so I gathered that I will just not be able to communicate with calling and texts. However, the hotels we are staying in have wi-fi, so would the internet still work on my phone and will my camera still work? Mainly, I am just concerned for my camera, I want to take alot of pictures on my phone and put them into my app called Footprints. Please help! Thanks a bunch!
it depends on the phone and the service provider. T-Mobile phones and service will work, I'm pretty sure sprint doesn't have any service there. basically the problem is that American towers run three bands, while european towers run four. your phone will most likely be physically capable of doing it, but if you don't have the right service provider, its not going to work. your camera... will work fine. I can't imagine that being a problem. However, charging your phone will be an issue. continental europe runs on 220 volts(we run on 110), and britain runs on some ridiculous voltage that I never bothered to remember. check your phone charger- if it says "Voltage~110-240" on that little label, then you're good to go, just need a plug adapter. if not, you will need a power converter which drops the voltage down to 110 volts. if your charger isn't capable of handling the higher voltage load and you don't use a converter- it will be fried.
wi-fi will still work, trust me, I used german wi-fi with my American gadgets for six years. Have fun in europe, but be careful. there are some real scumbags that would love to get their hands on a 17 year old american girl. stay with your group.
