Q: Like many others I am in a relationship and going to college in less than a month. He'll be near Phillidelphia, PA and I'll be near Providence, RI. About a 5 hour drive, and we've decided that breaking up isn't an option and we're in this for the long haul. His program will be somewhere between 9 months to a year and a half so its a shorter time than most people but I'm starting to get seriously depressed about leaving him. I'm really excited about living on my own and the whole college experience but the thought of us being so far apart is killing me. I get a horrible sinking feeling in my chest and I'm always on the edge of tears. Even if we're just saying goodbye for the night I don't want to let him go because I know our time is limited. I don't know how I'm going to get through everyday without being an emotional wreck. I want to have fun in college and live my life without being sad all the time. So I need ways to keep myself busy so I'm not sitting in my dorm thinking "Damn..I wish he was here right now" because I know I'll drive myself crazy that way.

Please please please help me.
I went through a similar situation about the same distance. But my BF was going away for a job, not school.

It was hard at first, but we talked every night on the phone, and on the weekends, we took turns driving to see eachother. It was great and made us closer.

that was our first year we were together.

we have now been together fr 5 yrs, we live together, and are getting married in december!

so i know its hard but can be done! if you guys really love eachother and are willing to out the work in, it can be a great part of your relationship!

hope I could help!

Thank you! We plan to visit on weekends also so its good to hear a success story come out of this situation. Congrats and good luck!
