i have gotten into that pattern again. its terrible. i go to sleep at four or five in the morning and then i wake up at three pm. its disgusting. i just want to sleep but i can't. all i do is lay in bed and wish i could fall asleep. i've been a bit depressed. i also sleep a lot better when i say goodnight to my boyfriend. is there anything i can do to help me fall asleep?
Hi there!
It's a matter of breaking the habit at all costs. You can take tylonel PM-- or if you're more comfortable with natural products, try Valerian or Calmeral[both available in GNC and other Vitamin shops]
As for your depression, there's exercises you can do at night time when you're trying to fall asleep. For example, don't get your mind excited by watching movies or video games. Your mind still stays attached to these things for a while after you're done seeing them. If there's issues between people in your life and you, save the confrontations for the morning. Sleep is almost impossible when you're worried about relationships and friendships.
Try building a scene in your head that relaxes you. A beach, forest, dessert, lake, field.. anything. Imagine a dumpster that you can place your problems into one by one. As you picture each problem, explain to yourself why it needs to be in there. If it comes back into your head anytime during this process, keep putting it back until it stops. When you're done, shut the dumpster, lock it, and push it out of your head.
You should be fairly relaxed at this point. When you are, start with your feet, tense the muscle for 5 seconds, and stop for 3. Do that 5 times. Then work your way up to your lower legs, tense for 5 seconds, release for 3, then do it again 4 more times. Keep it going through your thighs, tummy, chest, shoulders, arms, and all the way to your fingers. Half the time I fall asleep before I even get to my stomach.
Take care, and if this persists, see someone about it. Maybe you should look into an anti-depressant.
(Rating: 5) thanks so much. hopefully this will really help :)
