advice
so I'm 16/f and i go to the gym. i'm starting to go regularly. I eat normally and in small amounts so that's really not an issue. i want to tone my legs and make them slimmer. but i don't know whether the treadmill could do a better job at that or whether i should grow muscles on the workout machines instead. what burns fat faster? running or stretching/lifting weights? same goes for arm flab. sometimes i don't have enough time to go and lift weights..so i run instead.and i dont know whether or not im wasting time when i could get a more effective workout by lifting weights instead.
thank you :)
When it comes to burning fat, it is impossible to "target" where you want to burn it. In other words, if you do nothing but abdominal exercises, you might still burn more fat in your legs than your abs, just because that's how your body might interpret it. We all interpret and distribute our body fat differently, so to get rid of it, the same rule still rules. To answer your question though, if you want to burn the body fat, you should mainly stick to nothing but cardiovascular exercise (Anything that speeds your heart up, makes you sweat, and makes you breathe at a faster rate.) If you think about it, to gain muscle you have to eat high calories, and do little to no cardiovascular exercise with extensive weight training, and to burn fat, you eat little calories & carbohydrates and do all cardiovascular exercises, with little to no weight training. For you, I would most definitley stick with your running. Once you burn the body fat off too that you don't wish to have, THEN you can start doing some toning with free weights or lifting equipment. Keep of the great work and best of luck to you! Dave :]
