advice
i am not fat. i know that. however i have what my mom likes to call a "buddah belly" which is like the area where my belly button is a bit big. ive tried crunches and ab work outs. is there a certain diet i should start? or a specific work out that will make my stomach flat? i would really love to get in shape before summer =] thanks so much !
One side note I must cover before I give my advice is that abdominal exercise alone CANNOT create a six pack. You must be doing extensive cardiovascular exercises too, which in turn burns the fat covering your abdominals. Dieting is said to be 80% of your overall formation of a firm six pack, when trying to define them.
I've said it before and i'll say it again, everybody's body interprets fat differently, and stores it where it wants it. In your case, your stomach, probably the most frustrating area to have body fat. However, there is many exercises you can do to tone this region, so many in fact that i know if you eat properly and commit to cardiovascular exercise as well as defining exercises, you will be able to see some difference by summer. I agree with the advice below about getting rid of any poor junk food in your diet, mainly because this is probably what is causing a fat building on your stomach. Once you commit to exercise and diet, your body fat will begin to decrease and your muscle definition will increase, especially because this is in your abdominals, an area very suseptable to definition. If you do abdominal exercises that will tighten up your abdominals, they will begin to protrude more so, and cause the "buddah belly" effect to decrease, especially if you are burning body fat as well. More lines will begin to show and it won't look like a region of body fat. Some good exercises to begin with are decline and incline crunches (decline for your lower abdominals and incline, for your upper. If you want to tighten up your obliques as well (the muscles directly left and right of your abdominals, perform many "twisting" exercises that make your torso rotate. A nice example would be somthing as simple as a broom twist, where you hold a broomstick or a barbell behind your neck with your arms on either side, and rotate your waist left to right (slowly to prevent using momentum to help you.) I'm sure there are dozens upon dozens of sites that will appear if you type in "six pack" on a search engine that will aid you in abdominal exercises. As far as fat loss, you cannot lose fat where you want to directly, you only lose it as a system. In your case however, you say your body mainly only stores fat in your stomach area, so i believe that it will minimize with your proper dieting and exercise. Wish you best of luck at getting the body you want before summer! Dave
