Q: I want to make my own little iPod holder. Like the first (leopard fur one) one at http://search.freepeople.com/?q=ipod How could I make that one? Like with what materials and stuff. My mom said I could make one like it, but I have no idea! It looks fairly simple, but I still don't know.
The difficulty with that style is the woven part. Unless you can weave(and I doubt it, very few people do nowadays)cloth, its difficult to find ANYTHING similar. However, if you substituted a nice ribbon, its very easy.
Materials-
>1/4 yd piece of faux fur. You can purchase different prints. Keep in mind that the thicker the fur is, the more difficult it will be to work with and the harder to handle. You could just go with leopard print fabric(cotton is the simplest fabric to work with) but it won't have the style of faux fur. Another option would be to use a shimmery fabric, like a satin or silk, in leopard print, but these too, are difficult to work with.
>1 yd. ribbon(any color will work) or, 1/4 yd fabric.
>scissors
>needle(you need a longer one, with strength, but low weight. I suggest a quilter's between)
>thimble, unless you frequently sew. Your fingers will thank you.
>tape measure
>1/4 yd. differently patterned ribbon
>I'm not sure what that hook is called, because I've never used that style, but ask at a craft store for clasps, and they should have a nice selection.

METHOD:
1) Measure your iPod
2) Cut from the faux fur a piece of the faux fur that is the width all the way around plus one inch, and the height plus 1/2 an inch if you plan on leaving it unhemmed, 1 inch if you want to hem it.
3) Sew the bottom edge and the sides together INSIDE OUT to form a pocket. As you sew the side together, around 1 inch from the top, slide in the edges of the ribbon, and sew them into the seam. I'm not really sure how to describe this, but if you look at the picture you described, how they're tucked inside, you want it to look like that, and it needs to be done in the origional sewing.
4) Lightly baste stitch the edges of the ribbon around the pouch.
5) Sew the second type of ribbon through the clasp's fastenings.
6) Cut a hole the same width as r2(ribbon two) into the space below r1, and slide the end of the ribbon through. Sew it down INSIDE the pouch.
7) Repeat above r1 on the opposite side, with the ribbons pulled tight enough to clasp shut, but loose enough so as not to tear. Do this part with the iPod inside for measuring purposes.
:)
Hope this helped!!!
