Why does God allow terrible things to happen to good people? My 14 year old cousin has a brain tumor and he is just the most amazing kid. So full of life, absolutley loves the Lord, and so active. His dad is a pastor and his mom is so wonderful. Doctors have said a few times that he could die soon, but he has defied the odds. But then there is still part of the tumor in his brain, and we have searched hard for doctors that will preform a surgery to take it out, but it is too dangerous and could leave him paralyzed, or worse, he could die. Our family has some strong believers and we believe he will be a walking miracle. But i still don't understand why God allows this to happen to such an innocent child. I know some of it is because he is testing our faith and wants us to believe and trust Him. But why????? (link)

It's heartbreaking when tragedy, pain, or sickness strikes a person, especially one who loves the Lord and especially-especially when it's a young one.
The fact that your cousin has defied the odds speaks volumes about the Lord's great love and mercy. No one knows how that may be speaking to a doctor or nurse, another patient, unsaved family members and whoever else is watching.
You seem to understand that God allows things like this to be used for His glory and drawing us closer to Himself. This is good because so many people become angry, blame God, and end up bitter and hard-hearted.
However, the "why" question in general goes back to the fact that we live in a fallen world. The evil one is limited when it comes to those who are saved because those who are saved by the blood of Jesus live IN the fallen world, but are not OF it. Jesus said in John 16:33, "...In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world."
The "why" question for each individual case can only be answered by the Lord Himself. Sometimes He reveals it right away, sometimes it takes awhile; sometimes He doesn't reveal that answer at all. But no matter what, remember that God's sovereign hand is on each of His children and that is what we need to rest in.
