when i cook hashbrown patties in cooking oil, my mom always says not to dump the oil down the sink, to wipe it out of the pan with a paper towel and throw it in the garbage. why cant i dump it down the sink?

its because when cooking oil cools down it becomes a fat.. and then if its in the pipe it will cool down and clog the pipe.
