Q: why is it bad to be on the comp when there is a thunderstorm goin on?would anything happn to you or jus your comp?
Yes most definitely and i unplug mine too. any lighting strike to power lines or even the phone lines can fry your computer.

Most surge protectors only stop up to 150,000 volts. lightening is usually much more than that and will allow the excess voltage to leak past them.

Also if your hand happens to be on the mouse or keyboard and a strike does hit the powerlines then computer, your going to get a nasty shock.

OOOO! glad 2know dat!
