My name is Lyndsey and I'm 17 years old. I live in Lexington, South Carolina. I pride myself on being mature for my age with a good head on my shoulders, but I find I can be snippy when I hear something that just hits a nerve. I have a lot of strong opinions and I have no problem arguing them. I'm a very open-minded person and very tolerant of most things.
Immaturity is a big pet peeve of mine, as is self-centered, narrow-minded, and ignorant people. I can be cruel when it comes to these things, but sometimes certain people need to be told their faults. I know mine and I have no problem being confronted with them. If someone has a problem with me, online or in person, I'd rather they tell me and we can resolve the issue in a mature fashion. I won't tell you want to WANT to hear, just what you NEED to hear.
On a less serious note, I'm a laid back person and I enjoy shopping, the internet, and my favorite TV shows (Queer as Folk, The L Word, Friends, American Idol, Will & Grace, House). I don't have a large group of friends, but the ones I have are close and I love them to death. I generally enjoy life, minus the whole school deal. I'm a junior in high school and I can't wait to move on to college. I am an honors student and I hope to go to the University of South Carolina and then eventually into the medical field, possibly psychology.

I am still a virgin and I am 17. No, I am not one of those people that are waiting for marriage (I definitely won't be doing that), but I believe that at my age I am not yet emotionally mature enough for sex. Sex has so many attachments, it can ruin so many good friendships and complicate so many things in your life. It's not the simple act that many young people think it is.
And so, at 13 I definitely think you should wait for a while. It's perfectly normal to be THINKING about sex, we all do. You're beginning puberty and hormones are raging. Even at my age sex is on the mind a lot, you know?
I just think that if you make that decision, no matter how much preparation you go through, there is a very good chance you will regret it. And yes, it will hurt. Your body isn't even close to being done developing, so it could quite possibly hurt more now than it would in a few years.
It's a big deal, and not an issue to be taken lightly. And being with older guys has pros and cons...someone with more experience will know how gentle you need to be with a virgin girl but with someone who's had sex before, there's always a chance of getting an STD.
That's a BIG deal. Condoms aren't enough. My sister has herpes. She's been with two guys sexually her whole life: one was her finance and one was a long-term boyfriend. She thought both were fine...they had no break out and didn't tell her anything. Now she has to live with this her whole life. Herpes alone has a 50% chance of being contracted WITH a condom. That's not a very good statistic. No matter how "clean" you think a person is, you just never know.
And if the guy were also a virgin, trust definitely has to be there...MAJOR TRUST. He has to move so slow and some guys just don't know how to go about doing that. You have to be very careful.
