ok so i just got a straightner like a week ago and the third time i used it i was holding it shut and going down 1 section of my hair and i was going slow,so i look in the mirror and theres smoke coming from the straigtnr!!!!! i was like wtf!? do all straitners do that????? should i get a new 1 ????? your heat is probably on high and parts of your hair may still be wet, I do that a lot but it's really not good for your hair at all. Just make sure your hair is really dry before you straighten it and maybe turn the heat down a little.
