I heard this poem at a forensics competition but of course, me being ignorant and all...I missed the title and the author of it. But I absolutly loved it and basically memorize it myself
A special needs kid is the speaker of the entire thing and describes how she is also human and just one "hi" is enough to make her feel happy. And how she hates when people try to feel sorry for her or give her disgusted looks because she's is mentally retarded.
I know that those aren't the most helpful things to list in order to see what the poem is but can anybody help me? (link)

hmm knowing it was from a forensics competition, the girl or guy who recited it is probably the author.

That's not possible unless the person who spoke is a published author. For forensics competition you must read a work that is PUBLISHED by an author.
