Start off using ones that come with an applicator, Use fairly small ones to begin with and be aware of the fact that it might feel a bit weird at first if not hurt.
Oh and also push it in far enough! Obviously not so far you lose the string but if it doesn't go in far enough it can kind of feel like it's slipping out.
