Hey everybody! I've been through the most you can be through in life.. I know how it is. If anything at all is wrong just come to me and I'll tell you the way to go. I have two horses that are the BEST of friends. You can't take one out of the pen without the other. They are stuck like glue, but one is 42 years old! really he is! and the other is at least 30. When one passes away, do you think we should put the other one down? I mean they are both already really old and I know that one would be in MISERY without the other. Just getting an idea if the event might arise.

i am sorry to offend you, but i can believe that you would even think of putting a horse down just because they miss someone they loved. thats like murder. unless the horse is sick, dont put the horse down. thats horrible and un-nessisary.if the one horse will be misrible, then before one passes away, get them used to being alone. put them in seperate paddocks AWAY from each other. if there is no other paddock, then keep one in the barn and one outside, each for half of the day. dont make it sudden, gradually keep them further and further apart. they have to realize that they cannot be togethor forever. in the process, the horses can hurt themselves from rearing or bucking out of anger of being seperated. make sure that someone is there to comfort them, someone they trust, you for instance. when one horse passes away, make sure that you are there for the other horse. if someone is there with the horse, then it will make the seperation easier. also keep the horse preoccupied with things they like to do. you could also get another animal to keep the horse company. such as a goat; many horses have companions of a different species.
