Q: i've been playing the guitar for almost 2 years now and i'm pretty good at it... my friends want to start a band but they need a bass player... i was thinking about becoming a bass player. has anyone here played guitar and then started playing bass? is there a big difference? how hard is it to play? and how badly will i get calisis on my fingers?
I'm not exactly postive on the calisis front, but I'm sure it can be done. My aunt's boyfriend is two bands up in NJ, and he mostly plays the guitar for himself, but in his bands he plays the bass. He thinks it's much easier to play the bass anyway, especially if you've been playing guitar. But it's easier to play any instrument, if you've played one before, that is a known fact. Because I was in a guitar workshop at camp this summer, and these two girls were picking up on it alot faster than anyone else was, and I was like..."Woah" and they told me it was a piece of cake, because one of them played the cello, and the other played the violin. I didn't even know those instruments were alike, other than the fact that they both were stringed. SO YES! You will be able to pick up bass easilier (is that a word) get yourself a "Learning Bass for Dummies" and you'll be all set.

thanks lol... i'm not THAT much of a dummie!
