Rosie_Posie answered Tuesday November 10 2009, 3:28 pm: I had this problem too with my horse, but I fixed it in a few short months. If you ride western, sit in the saddle and wrap the reins around the horn so he can't bob his head forward. he'll try to, but he won't be able to. Keep the reins wrapped around the horn until he stops bobbing his head for 1 full minute. then loosen up. As soon as he bobs his head again, wrap the reins back around.
if you ride english, buy really long reins so you can pull them behind your thighs. If you use your thighs for leverage, he won't be able to jerk your hands forward.
littleashley09 answered Sunday November 8 2009, 10:42 pm: its hard to go from a well behaved horse to a stubborn one trust me i know. i have shown horses for about 9 years and i always had very well behaved horses until my newest one he is very difficult to handle and i have had him for 4 years now and i still have days where i can barely handle him this summer at the world shows we were top ten in two events and third in the world in another event and made finals in almost every event we went in but just a month ago he threw me and i pulled muscles in my leg sprained my wrist and fractured my elbow. really all you can do with this horse is be patient. if the horse is pulling the reigns put a stronger bit in his mouth my horse does this a lot so what we do is when we practice we have one bit that we use and then when we show we use a one that is a little stronger so try bumping up the size of your bit. another thing dont pull, if you pull you will only make things worse when your horse starts to pull on you widen your hands and slowly and gently pull from side to side but while you are doing this make sure to lightly tap with your legs so he knows not to stop. if you pull from side to side and tap with your legs he has no choice but to bridle up so he will be forced to listen to you. another thing i would not use the whip unless you absolutely have to try riding without it for a while some horses dont like the crop whips and that will cause them to misbehave. every horse has their little quirks you just have to find them. and another thing if your horse is very high strung try tying him up at night. not every night but maybe once or twice a week tie him up in his stall so he can get to his feed and water but so he can not lay down and leave him like that until you ride him the next day this will tire him out because he will not be able to lie down to sleep. but like i said do not do this every day just when you feel he is uncontrollable. i hope this advice helped you please feel free to ask me any questions you may have with your horse i have been through pretty much anything you can imagine horse wise. but please dont quit riding horses is the most amazing thing that you can do i encourage everyone to try it and if you like it you should never quit.
