I was having a really hard time two months ago and my mom took me to see a psychiatrist. He diagnosed me with a mood disorder NOS (not otherwise specified). My mom took me to have some blood drawn to check if maybe the way I was feeling was because my hormones were out of balance. We got the results back and the doctor said it was all entirely hormonal (mainly thyroid). So I really don't want what the psychiatrist wrote down on my report or record or whatever it's called to stay there for the rest of my life. Should I call him and tell him what was really wrong so I can get that off my record or will it just go away if I stop seeing him? Will anyone else ever be able to see what he wrote down(like whenever I go to apply for a job or something)?
I advise you to keep seeing your psychiatrist as long as you're comfortable talking to them. They can be a lot of help too. Medications may possibly be given to balance the chemicals in your brain. =] [ sognarxo's advice column | Ask sognarxo A Question ]

Trust that he will evaluate the results fairly. He is perfectly able to change the diagnosis he put in your medical record. Also, your medical record is protected by the HIPAA legislation of 1995 (Health Information Portability and Accountability Act). No employer will ever have access to it.

and being diagnosed with NOS is not that big of a deal :) its alright. and you don't even have that anyways. so i would call him and tell him it was hormonal anyways! just to get it off your record. but even if you don't nobody will ever see it.

The only time that confidentiality is not honored is if you are a threat to yourself or others. For safety reasons, they would tell parents, authorities, etc. depending on the situation. But for this, no, people probably wouldn't know unless you tell them. [ Catlovers141's advice column | Ask Catlovers141 A Question ]
