Im 16 and have been with my boyfriend for over a year now we have been having sex for about 8 months and have never had any problems. I have always know I had a septate Hymen and always worried that it could get in the way but it never seemed to as he is very careful. BUT...The other night he got it a bit wrong and snapped it at 1 end.It was VERY painful for a few seconds and i bled alot for a few hours and then a bit the next day and i was quite uncomfortable.I am fine now but as i have been able to analyse the 'damage' i know that it has left the rest of my hymen hanging there and it really is horrible. My boyfriend and I are very close so he knows about it and he says it doesnt bother him at all....but it really does look horrible, and has made me really worried about him going down there and having sex again.im worried its goin to get caught and i dont know what i should do as i have no one to talk to who can help. is this a common thing to happen and will my hymen wear away in time? The exact same thing happened to me. I had a septate hymen (at the time, I didn't know what it was called; I just knew that it was hard to put a tampon in and I had to be very careful when having sex). My hymen tore in half- right in the middle. It hurt a lot when it happened, and it bled through the night and into the next day. I made my boyfriend take me to the hospital, and an incompetent doctor informed me that the skin would recede back into my vagina once the swelling went down. That never happened- the tissue just hung out of my vagina permanently. It was only painful when I had sex and went running or bike riding. I finally went to the doctor and had the tissue removed. My procedure was painful, but it was worth it. Unfortunately, the hymen will not disintergrate: you should really go talk to your gyno and get it removed. It is an outpatient procedure, and the most annoying part if the situation is that you will have to wear pads for a week...
