I really really want to learn guitar. I looked into lessons but their like 20$ a half hour! Its crazy. My friends tell me to just teach myself, but I have no idea how. And my sister told me to get a book or DVD on it to learn from. What do you think? And guitsrists around that could help me? lol. And anyone who taught themselves, how did you and how long did it take? (link)

I've taught myself bass and I'm actually not that bad.
I just picked up the bass and I played a song, tabs make it really easy to teach yourself.
I learned a song in about a day.
It depends on how much dedication you have to it, if you have dedication, it shouldn't take you long to teach yourself.
What I'm doing, is I'm teaching myself the basics, doing all that stuff, and then I'll get lessons. It costs less money, and the basics are easy to learn yourself.
