why do people consider Catcher in the Rye or The Bell Jar good?

what makes people like books at all!? (link)
People consider Catcher in the Rye good because of the internal conflict that Holden Caulfield deals with. They like it because they can relate to it. They also enjoy it because of how Holden struggles with reality.
I personally enjoy reading because it helps me when I am depressed or stressed. I can see people in worse situations without leaving my house.
I also enjoy reading because it is an escape.
