Q: What's an OOC? I keep seeing everywhere on journal site's and message boards that so and so belongs to an OOC and that it's fake, but what it is?
A: OOC can mean two things, although it stands for Out of Character in both. In RPGs (role-playing games) of the journal or text-based message board type, it means that the person behind the character they're playing is asking a question or talking about something real, rather than in the game.
In fanfiction, OOC means that a character in the story is acting not like they usually would - out of character. For example, if Severus Snape suddenly hates Draco Malfoy and loves Harry like a son, he is completely and utterly OOC.
