Hi, I'm not really sure what to say here. I'm just a simple gal looking to give and get useful advice. I'm willing to talk to anyone. I enjoy nursing, school, the domestic arts, and long walks on the beach...

In the aftermath of the tsunami, the eternal theological question is again posed: what sort of God permits the slaughter of blameless humanity on such a scale?

On the abundant available evidence does it not seem that, if there is or was a God, it is now malevolent, mad or dead?

No, religious nutters please - this is a serious question I'm posing.

You have asked a number of questions.
First, Yes, God does exist.
Second, God is loving, kind, merciful, generous, and compassionate, BUT this same God is also just, strong, jealous, and vengful. His love is better than the most wonderful thing in the world, but His wrath is worse than any tsunami, war, or earthly pain we can even imagine.
Thirdly, God is not malevolent (or malicious, spiteful, or wicked) or mad (angry, upset, crazy or insane) or dead. God is the same yesterday, today and forever.
I would not consider myself a religious nut, and I hope I have not come off as such.

I don't know why He let this horrible disaster happen. He was and is aware of it, and I am certain that He is saddened by this loss of many people. I am not one to question Him. He has a plan in all of this, even when we (myself included) fail to see this.

By the way, this was not a punishment for those "non-Christians" God does not will that one human die without knowing Him.
