I started attending a Methodist church when I was 12. (I'd never been to church before- I'm now 14) I loved it! But when I had no idea what the Pastor or muchless ANYONE was talking about I got discouraged and stopped going.
I want to start going again but I do not understand alot of things about God which makes me VERY lost during the sermons. Why do we get baptised? What IS baptism? What IS confirmation? How do you know when a prayer has been answered? How do you know when you've been saved. What IS being Saved? When you read the Bible, do you read it straight thru or random chapters at a time? What are Diciples? Whose Abraham, whose Lot? At my church you can only take Confirmation classes in middle school and I'm now going to start high school (I missed the class session) does this mean I can't get into Heaven if I've never been baptised or confirmed?!
I stopped going to church when I got too frustrated and after six months I've decided I've hit rock bottom and want to get closer to God so I'm going to attend church tomorrow. Answers to my questions and advice to better accepting God and understanding him would be great! (link)

Wow thats a lot of questions, but I am filled with answers! I understad that going to a methodist church can be very confusing. If you realllly want to keep going to this methodist church, I would consider going to maybe a youth group, they can be very understanding. I go to a youth group, and it sooo much more understanding than the adult service. I will start with your questions. You get baptised as a public way of showing people that you are commited to your religion. Jeusus Christ was baptised, and people want to follow Jesus. Baptism is dunking your body in water, showing that you have been cleansed of all your sins, and you are born again. Confirmation is a way of becoming of a member of your church. It usually is in catholic churches. If you ask a prayer, you know that it has been answered, when you know that it HAS happened, such as, God please help me do well on my math test. Most of the time it is shown to you, because God will not answer your prayer and not tell you. You know that you have been saved if you accept your lord jesus into your heart. You know that because you say that he is your lord and savior, and you will worship him..That is basically what it is. Diciples are Jesus's people in the bible that would do his work in the Bible. There were around 12. Abraham was a person in the bible that did a lot of good deeds and he was a bery well know man.He also has many sons! (that was a song if you ever hear it.) You do not need to be confirmed, or baptised to get into heaven. You simply need to accept Jesus into your heart, or be saved. That is what I belive.
If you want to know more, talk to me.

I am a Christian, and always have been. I pray at LEAST every other day, I occassionally go to church, I repent, I try to limit how much I sin, and I believe that Jesus is God's son.
I used to be very certain that I would end up in Heaven. But recently, I came across a Bible verse that has been on my mind for a while. It's Matthew 7:13-14.
"Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a fiew find it."
Now I'm basically VERY worried about not making it to Heaven. The Bible says that it's hard to get in, but it also says that believing in Jesus is the only thing you need in order to get into Heaven. So I don't know what to do. =[
I'm also kind of starting to wonder about other religions. I think "If Christianity isn't the true religion, then I'll go to Hell forever", so I worry even MORE.
Please help. I don't need reassurance. I need answers. (link)

I have wondered about this also. But if you are afraid that you won't go to heaven because you are not a big enough christian, you know that you can always try to be a bigger one, because the bigger the better. It also says in the bible, that if you have accepted Jesus Christ as your lord and savior, you are going to make it to heaven. Here are some tips, pray every day, instead of every other day. Find a church that is a good one, and try to attend it as much as you can. You can also, try to find someone that is a big christian, and get advice from them.(everyone has different opinions)In the bible it says that the only way to heaven is through Jesus, so any other religion that doesnt support Jeusus I believe will not go to heaven.
If you have any other doubts, or need support you can ask me.

I made a new friend this year. We've became very close but she's a Jahovah's Witness (I hope I'm spelling this right). If y'all don't know, they are Christians but don't *celebrate* christmas. So, would it be inappropriate of me to get her a christmas gift? (link)
|
You dont necasserally have to get her a "Christmas" gift. You can get her a gift, and tell her that the holidays are coming around, and you want to get her a gift just to be nice. I know that she will take a gift even if she does not celebrate Christmas! ;)

I keep pondering whether God is supporting homosexuality, or opposing it. Many of my Christian friends have told me it's a sin to be homosexual, or bisexual for that matter, and according to the bible marriage is between a man and a woman. However, I always viewed it as God would accept you no matter who you are, or what you believe in. I am wondering which side I should take. I am not against homosexuality/bisexuality at all. I am befriended with many of them, and they don't bother me. It's just I am not sure which side is right, and which side I should go for. I need explainations on which side is better, even if it's based on opinion. Thanks in advance! (link)

i know that, God will accept you for whatever kind you are. He loves all people, becuase they are his children. You are right, it does say in the bible that marriage should be for men and women. Just because someone is bisexual or homosexual does not mean that he will not accept you or love you. No matter if you love him or not he will always love you. If you are pondering about anything else. I am filled with answers, and you can ask me!

I am half christian, half jewish. However, for my beliefs, I choose to be 100% christian even though I celebrate both christmas and hanukkah. I believe in God and I pray every night and such. I'm not like a "go to church every sunday, read the bible" kind of person or anything, but I have been to church camps and little youth groups for about 6 years now. I have never doubted the Lord and still don't, but I just read a myspace blog of someone from my school who has different beliefs than me, which is fine, but some of the things he said really got me thinking. It wasn't about how he believed in the devil, it was mostly just about how he doesn't belive there is a God. I totally do don't get me wrong, but I am just confused all of a sudden. I still believe in the Lord but I am really worried because after reading that I was questioning my religion. I do not understand why, because my whole opinion that I had believed in for such a very long time is now confusing me after reading one little blog. I am scared..I don't want to be like this! I am a follower of Jesus and this is scaring me that I am all of a sudden confused about it! Please please please someone help me. Just explain it if its ever happened to you or maybe if you have any advice about what's really going on. I'm not sure what I'm really asking here, but just please give me any of your thoughts and advice. Thanks so much I really appreciate it!!!! 14/F by the way =) (link)

I am a very big belive in our Lord jeusus, and I have fely what you are feeling right now. I know that a lot of people can question what they are beliving in, and I would have to say in your case, that the devil is just messing with your mind. He will do anything to get you to go away from your belief in God. Just think to yourself, I am not going to doubt what I am thinking right now. If you truly belive in God, you will know that he is real, and no one can tell you other wise. That is what I belive.
If you have any other questions you can always ask me, or send me a message.

I don't know, I've just been thinking about this alot lately. Okay, you know how people always say that to go to Heaven you have to believe in God and be religious and such? Well, what about a person who is kind and selfless and is just a good person in general and is an athiest? Does that mean that they wouldn't go to Heaven even though they were a good person who did good for other people? Because if you think about it, not every person who is religious is good. Like the terrorists who flew the plane into the World Trade Center, causing the deaths of all those innocent people. They claimed that they were doing that for God and their religion. I mean, wouldn't it seem wrong for a person just to go to Heaven because they were religious even if they weren't a good person, and a person who was a really good person not going to Heaven because they weren't religious? I was just thinking about this and wondering if anybody had some answers, perhaps? (link)

Even though a lot of people have answered this, I KNOW in my heart, the true way to get to heaven. And I hope sooo much that I will get through to you. And not as just "another answer." I will quote in the bible what it says. "The only way to God is through Jesus." You have to accept Jesus into your heart to go to heaven. Just because someone is a good person and they have good morals absolutely DOES NOT mean they are going to heaven. If you do not belive(and I agree with the other columnist who said this)God, and not just in him, you cant get into heaven. Heaven is a place where you are reunited with God, it is his house, and you have to be a person OF him,and love him, to be there for eternity. The Islams have a completely different outlook on religion. They belive in Allah, and not in "God" I personally do not think that Islams will go to heaven because you have to belive in Jesus to get there, and they do not. Some people just are good people because they dont belive in being a bad person. But trust me, I know what I am talking about. And there is a way to know if you are going to heaven or not. If you have any questions on how any of this works, PLEASE message me, and if you want I can pray with you.

I am 13/F and not the best christian. I dont go to church but I do pray everynight. Well on Sunday my brother's best friend asked me out and I thought he was joking so I quickly and coldy said No way! Then that night I really liked a guy and foolishly prayed "lord, I know I havent been the best but please you know how much I like him could you please somehow influence him to ask me out? Ill pay the price like......you can make this week torture for me if he just does that one thing" then I went on with the prayer. Now me and the guy WERE really good friends. Then on Monday he got mad at me for no reason and one time when we were shoving eachother in the snow he just yelled "STOP FLIRTING WITH ME!" I was taken back but not too mad. Then everyone starts calling me names and a looser and stuff for no reason. I get really confused cause im actually very popular. Then I find out I failed a Math Test! I have been a straight A student since grade 1 and have NEVER failed a test. Then at lunch since I forgot my lunch the guys start calling me anorexic. I also got tripped in the hall and other stuff. On the busride home the busdriver said she couldnt see me in my seat and gave me a checkmark for it! The next day my best guy friend got mad at me for not telling him who I liked. In the end I gave him a note (a VERY sincere note) saying how I thought that there was no need to ask and he didnt need to know and how it didnt matter who I liked because im ugly and not like girlfriend material like my best girlfriend and how I was happy he was my friend and I considered him my best guy friend. also on that day the rumors kept going on and getting meaner and on the busride home I got another check mark for being a little late even though my teacher kept us in 5 minutes after the last bell. Then today I find out the guyfriend thinks im a freak and I scare him. These guys shove me to the ground and kick tons of snow in my face for a long time (they like held me down) then someone found my agenda and said that on the frontpage it says im in love with this one guy and how I think he really likes me and when I go to prove he's lying its written there in MY handwriting in ink. So now that guy thinks im a freak. My best guyfriend told people what I thought about myself so now everyones bugging me about it. I sat in gum wearing my favourite jeans and I got a third checkmark which means im getting a bus write-up in the morning. What is happening to me? Is he seeing if I can take the week or is he punishing me or what?! (link)

Ok, first off, God NEVER punishes someone. He would never try to torture you or anything like that. It is in the bible. First of all, look at this guy, and say to yourself, is this guy a christian? Would he make me feel good about myself? Would he influence me, and help me, and never get me into trouble. Basically is this guy an overall good person. I dont think that anyone that is really a good person would shove you into the snow. I would just stay cool in school, ya know, just keep everything positive. Try going to church. If you dont know any. Ask someone at school that goes to church. My church is the BEST and I know so many other good ones. Always pray,(and I think its great that you do.) If you stay postitive at school, people would really want to be around you. Sometimes people have bad weeks. It will be over before you know it. All I can say is ask God. And you can ALWAYS look in the bible for advice. If things dont get any better, you can message me.
