I want to go to UCLA. Any advice?
Any colleges in the area that are pretty prestigious that you would suggest for me? I'm into performing arts and writing. [big artsy fartsy person]

Aside from UCLA, i would say UCSD and UCBerkeley pretty much on the same level, though UCBerkeley's more of a engineering school. Advice on UCLA... they're one of the more competitive UCs so you definitely want good grades and strong SAT and SAT II scores. You can visit the UCLA site for more info if you want. Extracirriculars are a really good thing too.. it shows that you're not the type of person who just stays home and studies so you can get into prestigious colleges. The acceptance is pretty much all about your resume and application and how you show yourself to the application people.

Do colleges look at just your last 4 years of high school? Or do they go beyond that?

They look at high school years. Especially junior year!! Freshman year they almost never look at... it's basically sophmore, junior and senior... but junior is the most important yea

I’m really into fashion and my parents know that. My mom and I have talked about me going to an art school before and she wouldn't mind if I did. I have a very good chance of getting into UCLA but there is one problem--my dad. He refuses to let me go to an art school. He wants me to go to UT (Texas) which is where he went. I'm in the top 10% of my class so I'm in automatically there. He told me that in the end it was my decision but if I decided to go to UCLA then he wouldn't pay for it. UCLA is an expensive school and it'll be even more since I'll be coming in out of state and I won't be able to pay for it on my own. I need my dad. I tried to get my mom to talk to him about it but it didn't help. So now I don't know what to do-- go to UCLA and pay for it on my own (which I most likely be able to do) or go to UT and have my dad pay for it. What do you think?

Like everyone else said. Go to UCLA. It seems like your desire is for art school and your dad shouldnt stand in your way of your dreams by wanting you to go to HIS school. If he refuses to pay for you, there are other ways, such as financial aid, scholarships... but i think you should have a talk with your dad. Tell him why you want to go to UCLA, make him understand that it is your dream, like it was his dream to go to UT [?]. Going to UT wont help you get a better future if it doesnt teach what you want, so I say, go to UCLA! GO UC schools! XD
