Sometimes my advice is good advice, and sometimes it's just an opinion. Sometimes people don't take good advice (ironically.) If everybody would just talk to each other, we'd have world peace, so you probably won't see "just talk to them" in my column.

I worked as a Registered Nurse for a few years so I know a little about health.

I think and read about spiritual things. I answer spiritual questions without trying to convert anyone to my own beliefs. I'm a non-denominational Christian, but I believe everyone has a path to follow, and God is patient, so I answer spiritual questions from where you are.

I injured my ankle and have been under a doctor's care from April 4 until the first week in July. It was ruled either just a really bad contusion or a small fracture. It is doing really well, but I have a question. It feels "funny" still sometimes. I am not sure I can explain it. Sometimes it feels like there is a little rubber band that isn't quite in the right place right across that little part of the bone that sticks out. I have gone back to exercising it a little and icing it when it feels that way. Will it ever feel the same again? When? (link)
My daughter sprained her ankle badly about 5 years ago. She actually had a cast and physical therapy afterwards. Her experience has been that she still has some stiffness and swelling at times in that ankle.

It has only been 3 months since your injury. I think in your case it will probably get back to normal but it may take a few years.

The tightness you feel is probably from the muscles that haven't been used while it was healing. Exercising is probably the best thing. Just don't over-do it and make it feel worse.

This is all just an educated guess, though. You may want to check with your doctor or an orthopedic nurse.

When I was younger I a serious ear infection that was so bad to the point I was unable to hear people's voices. My mom realized something was wrong with i didn't start to develope my speaking skills. As i grew up I {knowing nothing of my hearing problem of when i was younger}I felt as I didn't belong how I didn't know until a several months ago and now I feel that I should be "Deaf" Instead of "Hearing" I just don't seem to belong in the "hearing world" that I should be in the "deaf world". In class i started reading peoples lips for no reason at all but like it so if I ever miss something I can catch it. I wish all the time that i was deaf. Does this mean i have a sick mind? Am I using a deafness as an escape to sort of try and solve my porblems or something like that? If anyone reads this post and is upset by it i'm sorry. (link)
I understand wanting to be deaf because no one gives you any slack for your hearing problem. They expect you to be able to hear and follow like everyone else.

I guess you have been tested in your school and by a health practitioner that specializes in hearing loss. If you haven't you should. You might even consider a hearing aide. You do need more help than you are getting if you feel this way.

I have a bad sunburn on my face and I would like to know what to put on it OTC or if I should see my doctor. (link)
Tea bags that have brewed tea and are cooled down might help. Pat your face with them. If your burn is really bad, very painful with blisters, you might see a doctor.

In 1975, had carpal tunnel surgery (L) in March and (R) in July.
Last year, a M R I showed My C-2 slipped (surgery 6/4/03)and deteriating disks of C-3, C-4, C-5, and C-6 (surgery 6/10/03 removing and replacing disks). All were "pinching" nerves to both hands, causing pain, numbness, and tingling. Neither 2003 surgery has removed the symtoms, which I have 24/7, which seems to be getting worse of late. Age = 66 yr.
Did carpal tunnel come back, as suggested by family doctor and neurosurgin? My whole hands seem to be numb and the pain seems to come from inside of wrist, going up my arms.
Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. (link)
Your carpal tunnel surgery was a while ago, so it might be coming back. Definitely I would think your doctor would want to be certain it was carpal tunnel and not something else causing the symptoms before doing anything. You need your doctor to investigate thoroughly and advise you. Here is a website about it, although you may already know this information. In this website it does says that other factors can cause you to have a lower success rate with surgery. Since you had so many problems with your back, you may have something else going on besides carpal tunnel syndrome.

There's a group of girls at my school who have been cutting themselves. I talked to my counseler and he said that it was the right thing to tell him, and he would have me remain anonomys. One of the girls and she found out from my counseler. She got mad at me, and she said that I should mind my own buisness. Was she right, or was that the right thing to do?!? Please help!!!!!!!!!

Yes, you did the right thing. Cutting can either be a suicide attempt, or a self mutilation thing, which is very different. Either way it isn't good for them, and even if they are mad at you, you still did the right thing.

But I would also keep in mind that the counselor didn't act very professionally by letting them know how he found out.

I was at a friends house and I was playing on her brothers skateboard. Stupidly I was wearing sandals and I fell. I hurt my toe and it looks fine but it hurts when I walk and it looks a bit swollen. I'm not sure if I broke it, fractured it, or just stubbed it really bad but I would appreciate any suggestions that would make the healing process faster! (link)
If you broke it, it would probably hurt enough for you to want to go to the doctor. With broken toes, they usually just tape them to the next one and give you pain killers, but anyway, I doubt if you broke it.

For things like sprains the best thing is to keep it up. Whenever you can sit down and put it on a foot stool, or up on a sofa on pillows. Ice actually may make it feel better. It takes down swelling. You can also try aspirin or ibuprofen (advil or motrin) if you are over 15 and it is ok with your parents (read the box on how much to take.) In any case it should be better in within 2 or 3 days.
