I myself have recently begun playing guitar...about 4 months now. I found that it was easier then I thought. I have taught myself, so i had no aid of a teacher, and I still found it pretty easy. Tabs are by far the easiest to learn and the best site i have found is www.mxtabs.net Good Luck!
