I'm thinking about joining soon.
I have a few questions..
1)Which branch should I join?
2)What are the benefits of each?
3)Navy vs the others?
4)School and military at same time?
5)I want to major in film writing, do you think military would conflict in that goal?
6)About how long does it take to process into the military?
Thanks for help (link)

I'll make it as short as I can.
I work with all the branches even the coast guard
and from my experiences (about a year and 5 months )
I believe your best choice would be the Air Force
there main focus is education then work
they provide much better living quality and
A personal supervisor to sort your needs
Their bases are clean, safe and the personnel are very helpful from what I encountered so far.
2. the benefits are all rather the same I won't get into detail
3. The navy you will get to travel more, if you like ships it's also a good choice, however if you dislike being gone from months at a time out in the ocean with a bunch of other seaman reconsider - Now I am not saying the navy are only on ships.. it all depends what job you have
personal choice and The Navy is my second choice
4. all branches push for schooling, some more than others, I believe the Air Force and Army are on top of these, but I may be wrong. It comes down to self motivation -you'll get yearly income for schooling the AF calls it tuition assistance
pays for just about everything.. however with budget cuts and a horrible debt were likely to get this cut in half. theres also lot of detail that comes into this look it up
5. No as long as it doesn't interfere too much with work and trust me, you'll have plenty of time for schooling in the AF.
6. The Air Force took me nearly a year before I even got to go to boot camp
9 week total boot camp (many don't count the zero week)
and for me, a 6 month tech school period
Not everyone feels this way, but the air force is best described as my family, they take good care of me and I trust they will in the future.
However, I have to say for the record that I am likely bias due to the fact I am in the Air Force
so it all comes down to choice
if you like getting mud on your face, dirt in your eyes and sweating a pool then I don't suggest AF or Navy (unless Special Ops)
Go for Army or Marines
though don't come complaining to be when you got a twin size bed and I got a queen, or when your room is a closet size and mine a mansion
or your 6 mile rucksack march and our beach day :)

Thanks for the advice! I'll consider the AF as one of my options.
