I am dating my besfriend, the love of my life and the man I will marry! Unfortunately he lives across the country and we only see each other a few times a year. I won't get to see him till next spring, and I am so upset. I feel so lonely here, I mean I Love my family and friends but it doesn't help. Even in a crowd I feel alone. I know exactly how you feel. I am currently in the same situation. I am from Canada and my boyfriend is from USA. We were planning on meeting this summer, but his parents wouldn’t let him because he is going to college soon. So now we are planning on meeting next summer, hopefully. We met last Feb and have been talking every since. Overall we have been talking to each other for 17 months. It will be 2 years till we actually met. Right now he is gone to another state for a job for 4 weeks and so we are unavailable to talk to each other.
Something’s that we do to keep going is talking to each other everyday. I would strongly invest in downloading SKYPE. It really helps. Being able to see and hear him is really special. We kiss the screen a lot and play a lot of games. There are games you can play on skype that really help cause normally just talking on cam gets boring after awhile. We send gifts, letters, pictures to each other. We play 1000 questions and learn more about each other. We go on utube and share the screen on skype and watch vids together. But the number one thing we do that helps both of us, is just by talking to eachother about the future, what we want to do, how our day went, how much we miss them, and just basically showing support to the other person. Cause you have to remember that they are going through the same thing.
Long Distance Relationships are extremely hard. I would have to say this is the hardest thing I have ever had to do in my life. And it is even harder because we have never actually met or had the physically connection like most couples do. You have to have supportive people around you, that will help you out a lot. Talking to him about everything going on with you, including your doubts, fears ect. It brings you closer as well as understanding the other person.
My advice would to down load SKYPE. We SKYPE everyday and it helps a lot. A few times on cam we have had a “sleep-over”. Where we both sleep in front of the cam. Just hearing his breathing during the night and watching him sleep really is a special thing for me and him. We have learned to cope with our situation and even spice it up. You have to have faith that it will work, if you really love him and he loves you, and it was meant to be, it will work. If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it.
Here is a site I found a long time ago, specifically made for ldr couples. There are games, advice, blogs, gifts and so much more for people in our situation. Just keep your head up and stay strong for you and him. My bf and I have both learned that crying over it doesn’t change or help anything.
