well i've been wanting to get something done on my face for awhile now, and at first it was going to be a stud on the nose. but then the whole universe decided it was a good time to get that done, so eh, i thought maybe a lip piercing isn't too shabby after all. most people are against my decision, saying it'll look bad. but i really want to get it done, regardless, so i ignored those remarks. but one grabbed my attention, my sister who knows quite a lot about piercings had told me i could chip my tooth on it, it could destroy my gums, i could swallow the back. so i was wondering- are these really as big as they sound or is it just an over exaggeration? and before i get it done, what are some things i should know? thankyou.

I've had my lip piercing for a couple of months now. A stud is easy and best to start out with. A ring constantly moves and isn't good for healing. I don't know anyone that got a chipped tooth from a lip piercing. If you go to the GOOD place (read reviews or get recommendations) then they will pierce it in the correct spot so it won't give you gum issues. It is possible that you can swallow the back part of the jewelry, just like how you can swallow a loose tooth, etc. You can always go back in and get them to replace it. But they tighten it pretty well.

My tips are
-Don't touch it at allll. Use a q-tip!
-Sea salt soaks mouth rinse with 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt and cup of warm water
-Alcohol free mouthwash only for the first few months
-Soak the outside with sea salt too
-Rinse and brush after every meal for the first few weeks
-Get a large gem on your stud
-Try to avoid spicy foods
-Brush your jewelry too
