I understand that you have to get a pap smear before going on birth control. I read on the website below that if you haven't had sex before (and I haven't), then you do not need to have a pap smear done. I've never heard this before, can anyone tell me if it's true or how I can find out for sure?
When I went on birth control, all they did was make me pee in a cup so I could take a pregnancy test (even though I'm not sexually active, but it was routine). They also measured my blood pressure and that was all. No pelvic/rectal exams whatsoever.
Even if they don't require a pelvic exam (which includes a pap smear) I would still suggest getting a pelvic exam because it just ensures that everything is normal, even if you have no symptoms.
So to answer your question, I think it just depends where you go. Some might require it, some may not. You can always call them and ask them before making an appointment =)
